The weekend arrived and just when things looked set to collapse, they erupted into level one alerts and camp scrambles.
I was chatting on line to Ste in Malvern, as has been the case all week and I offered to go over and see him as he was a bit down. We had previously had a walk on Malvern hills the other Monday when I had a half day off. Anyway, after some chat it turned out we were going up the hills camping, so I dived in the bath, prepped my kit and deployed for the hills.
The train was on the platform waiting for me, and so I pounced on it. The guard was busy and said he would come back for my money, and as I got off the train at the other end I went up to him and he said he would catch me next time – so free ride!!
Ste was waiting for me looking as gorgeous as ever, and we set off to his place to abandon my bike, as this wasn’t coming up the hills with us. We set off and after some cash, some nibbles and a sausage and chips (which we ate en-route) we started up the hills. We chatted about many number of things and then stopped at the Wyche pub for refreshment before starting out, now in the dark, for the hill part of the journey. This was hard going, undulating hillside in no light and poor visibility. The parts of the path that dipped into shrub and tree cover were almost pitch black, and a moments pause was required for the night sensitivity to kick in enabling us to see.
When we finally arrived at the destination, the view was still as amazing as ever. We had obviously missed the sunset at this point, but the lights across the country were blazing strongly, and the stars were out in force. The wind had picked up though, and being a very hot day, I was only in shorts and a sleeveless top. Ste had a long sleeve top but was still cold, so we huddled on the brow of the hill watching the view and nibbling chocolate.
The tent had been erected on arrival and after some time looking at the night time view, we retreated to the relative warmth it offered. As is the case on camps, we chatted into the wee hours and I was provided the luxury of someone to cuddle up to who didn’t object that much. Well it was quite cold and so not completely unwelcome I think.
I really like Steve, and although there are differences between us in various ways, there are also an uncanny amount of similarities. I have not bonded with a Scorpio before on such a level, and welcome a really close friend in that respect, even if it is only for a few weeks. The catch of course is that he is completely dedicated to his boyfriend Alex, who lives up north in Derby. Also unlike most gay guys, he is completely loyal to him, and thus nothing beyond cuddles occurred.
The morning arrived and although on the hills and the fairly long walk back it was warm but windy, with a cloudy overcast sky, on hitting Malvern town the sun came out and my return home on the train was hot.
A quick trip to Tesco’s was in order, as I wanted some cold drinks and ice poles, also I needed some razors. I then came on line, chatted briefly with Steve and then fell asleep. It has been a lovely day, and having the companionship and cuddles was something that warmed my heart, and made me wonder if there was anyone like him out there for me.
He talked about Alex for most of the trip; that and his life and various happenings. I also reflected on some of my experiences, Wayne, Richard, and David, who by co-incidence we bumped into on the way home (he said he would catch up with me sometime).
I tried to envisage someone thinking of my in the way he thinks of Alex, that someone could be so pre-occupied about their partner, that it would result in life changing events to be with them. This is yet to happen to me, and I actually wonder now if it ever will.
Due to Steve’s dire finance situation, the fact that he has no income what so ever and no benefits, I bought him breakfast, and £15 of shopping. This weekend has notched up some further expense and totalling £50 in all. I am shocked at that myself so will try and account for it.
£20 drew out, this paid for nibbles, chip shop, and pub with £5 left over. We got to Malvern and I drew another £10. The breakfast and drinks cost around £12 of the £15 I had on me, and so I paid the Somerfields shop on the card at £15. I also had cashback of £5 to pay for the train on the way home. Yep that does come to fifty pounds, my god. Oh well, it was a really nice trip away; I got I shit loads of exercise, and the feeling in my heart from having someone close; even though not a partner, it was enough to make me feel content, safe and accepted.
The weekend isn’t over yet either. I am expecting a Sunday lunch out tomorrow with Karen my neighbour, and so that will be at least £10. Add to this to include a cheque for £175 for the two seater sofa in the lounge, which is now officially mine. A scary amount to come out of a weekend budget that consists of only £10! My sisters birthday gifts also need to be added to this, and although not a huge amount we can notch up another £25, plus two lots of half price shoes for me at £12 each.
Hmm wish I hadn’t done this now, I am rather scared the account cant handle such amounts and meat the other commitments. What the hell, it’s the summer. I don’t leave the house for weeks on end in the winter, so may as well make up for it now.
